MIAMI, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Alfredo Amezaga lit up Florida's six-run fifth inning Friday, lifting the Marlins to their ninth straight win -- 14-8 over Philadelphia.
The setback knocked the Phillies out of first place in the National League East, a half game behind the New York Mets.
Philadelphia assumed the top spot in the wild card chase, two games in front of Milwaukee and 4 1/2 games ahead of both Houston and the charging Marlins.
Florida put together a five-run first inning, featuring Dan Uggla's two-run blast, but Philadelphia rallied to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth.
The Marlins then regained the advantage by batting around in the bottom half of the inning.
Jorge Cantu doubled in a run off Brett Myers (10-12), Uggla delivered an RBI single and Luis Gonzalez drove in another run with a fielder's choice grounder before Amezaga produced his homer to make it 11-6.
Florida eventually pounded out 14 hits to make a winner out of starter Josh Johnson (6-1), who allowed five runs on seven hits.
