MLB: LA Angels 6, Oakland 4

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Francisco Rodriguez quelled a huge ninth inning rally Thursday and earned his 59th save in the LA Angels' 6-4 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The Angels carried a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Oakland scored four times and had a man on when Ryan Sweeney hit a game-ending ground out against Rodriguez.

Five Los Angeles players knocked in a run, with Kendry Morales, Mike Napoli and Brandon Wood all hitting solo homers.

One run scored when Torii Hunter stole home in the fifth.

Gary Matthews had three hits and two others two for the Angels, who stopped a two-game skid.

Winning pitcher Joe Saunders (16-7) surrendered six hits in seven scoreless innings.

Oakland got one RBI from four players.

Jeff Baisley had two of the eight hits for the Athletics, who had won had their four-game winning streak snapped.

The losing pitcher was starter Josh Outman (1-1).
