Bucs cornerback suspended for one game

NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie cornerback Elbert Mack was suspended by the NFL Tuesday for one game without pay for a "flagrant violation of player safety rules."

An NFL spokesman said Mack, in the Buccaneers' victory over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, "unnecessarily launched himself into Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan and made impermissible helmet-to-helmet contact."

It is the second time Mack has been disciplined for a hit this season. He was fined $5,000 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against quarterback Alex Brink in a pre-season game against the Houston Texans in August.
