MLB: Boston 7, Toronto 0

BOSTON, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Tim Wakefield and Manny Delcarmen combined to throw a three-hitter Friday and the Boston Red Sox coasted to a 7-0 victory over Toronto.

The Red Sox moved to within two games of division-leading Tampa Bay in the American League East and both teams will be involved in double headers Saturday. Tampa Bay was forced into playing two games Saturday when its Friday meeting with the New York Yankees was rained out.

Wakefield (9-10) allowed all three Toronto hits and struck out four over eight innings. The Blue Jays did not advance a runner past second base.

Jed Lowrie drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the second and a double in the fourth. Kevin Cash hit a three-run homer in the eighth, his third homer of the year.

David Purcey (3-6) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
