Jaguars lineman placed on injured reserve

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Jacksonville has placed offensive tackle Richard Collier on the reserve/non-football injury list as he remains in critical condition from a gunshot wound.

Collier, 26, was shot early Tuesday morning outside a local apartment complex.

He and former Jaguars teammate Kenneth Pettway had been out at clubs and, after following two women they had met back to the complex, someone walked up to the Cadillac Escalade in which they were waiting and fired several times at Collier, who was driving.

Pettway was not injured.

To fill Collier's roster spot, the Jaguars signed offensive tackle Charles Spencer.

The Florida Times-Union reported Thursday the Jaguars plan to give Spencer an opportunity to earn playing time.

The 6-4, 337-pounder was a third-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2006 NFL draft out of Pittsburgh.

He was waived by the Texans on July 22 and spent the 2007 season on the physically unable to perform list after suffering a broken leg.
