LSU-Troy football game postponed

BATON ROUGE, La., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Saturday's college football game between LSU and Troy in Baton Rouge, La., was postponed because of the damage caused this week by Hurricane Gustav.

Much of Louisiana's capital city remained without power when an announcement about the postponement was made Wednesday afternoon.

"The welfare of the people of Baton Rouge, the uncertain power issues facing all of us and the condition of Tiger Stadium were all factors in making this decision," LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva said at news conference. "We are fortunate that both schools had a common open date later in the year. I am appreciative of the cooperation of the good people at Troy for their understanding of this situation."

LSU's home field, Tiger Stadium, is one of the areas still without electricity and the school said on its Web site that the stadium was hit hard in several areas, including the Stadium Club and the scoreboard.

Weather-permitting, classes at the Baton Rouge campus will resume on Monday.
