Atkins hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run third inning that put Colorado in front to stay and he added a two-run shot in the ninth. The Rockies had only a 4-3 lead going into the eighth, but padded their advantage in that inning on a two-run double by Seth Smith.

Starter Aaron Cook (16-8) got the win, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings.

Dirk Hayhurst (0-1) took the loss in his second major league appearance. He surrendered four runs on five hits over four innings.
