BEIJING, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The United States won the Olympic gold medal Saturday in the men's 1,600-meter relay.

The Bahamas took the silver and Russia the bronze.

American runners LaShawn Merritt, Angelo Taylor, David Neville and Jeremy Wariner helped provide a sweep of the relay medals for the United States Saturday. That eased some of the sting of having both U.S. sprint relay teams knocked out of the Olympics with dropped batons in the semifinals.
