NCAA to hear Ben Mauk's latest appeal

CINCINNATI, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The NCAA has decided to hear the latest appeal by former University of Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk for a sixth year of college eligibility.

The Kenton, Ohio, native has had five other appeals rejected this year by the collegiate governing body and until his case is resolved, Coach Brian Kelly will not allow him to practice with the 2008 Bearcats.

In 2003, he enrolled at Wake Forest and underwent an additional foot operation that season.

In a lawsuit against the NCAA last week, he said his latest request was based on new information about the foot injury he suffered in high school.

He enrolled at UC as a graduate student in 2007, and last season, passed for 31 touchdowns and 3,121 yards while guiding the Bearcats to a 10-3 record.
