Rolf Muntz leads KLM Open golf tournament

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Rolf Muntz shot 6-under-par 64 for a one-strike lead after Thursday's first round of the European Tour's KLM Open in Zanvoort, Netherlands.

His bogey-free round included six birdies, three on the back nine holes 10-12.

England's John Bickerton and Denmark's Soren Hansen share second place at 5-under 65 and Sweden's Alexander Noren is alone in fourth at 4-under 66.

"It's awesome playing in front of your home crowd and it was a gorgeous round," said Muntz, a Netherlands native, whose lone European tournament victory came at the 2000 Qatar Masters. "It's the kind (of round) you plan on paper and it actually works out."

Bickerton made five birdies and Hansen had six birdies, but a double-bogey at the par-4 ninth kept him from sharing the overnight lead with Muntz.

Defending champion Ross Fisher of England opened with an even-par 70 to join 15 others in a tie for 43rd place.
