Brother and sister win Olympic medals

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Lopez family from Houston, hoping to win three Olympic medals this week, got two of them Thursday.

Mark Lopez made it to the gold medal match in the 68-kilogram class of taekwondo, but he had to settle for the silver when he fell to Son Tae-jin of South Korea.

Diana Lopez, Mark's sister, lost in the quarterfinals but came through the repechage round to earn a bronze medal in the women's 57-kilogram division.

Lim Su-jeong of South Korea won the gold in the women's class and Azize Tanrikulu of Turkey, who defeated Diana Lopez, eventually took the silver.

Steven Lopez, an older brother of the two medal winners, will be battling in the 80-kilogram class Friday. Yet another brother, Jean, coaches all of them.

The three members of the Lopez family are the first trio of siblings to compete in the same Olympics in 104 years.
