MLB: LA Angels 5, Tampa Bay 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Garret Anderson's infield single knocked in the winning run Wednesday in the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 decision over the Tampa Bay Rays.

With the scored tied 4-4, two outs and the bases loaded, Anderson reached on a grounder to second base.

Erick Aybar hit a two-run, seventh-inning triple.

Chone Figgins had two hits and one RBI, while Torii Hunter added two hits for the Angels, who averted a three-game sweep.

The winner was Jose Arredondo (5-1). Closer Francisco Rodriguez earned his 48th save.

LA starter Jered Weaver gave up three earned runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He recorded nine strikeouts.

Four Tampa Bay players had one RBI each. Gabe Gross and Eric Hiske had two hits apiece for the Rays, who had won six of eight between the teams.

The losing pitcher was Grant Balfour (3-2).

Tampa Bay starter Matt Garza surrendered four earned runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings with four walks and seven strikeouts.
