MLB: Tampa Bay 7, Texas 0

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay's Matt Garza struck out nine batters and allowed just two singles Friday and the Rays blanked the Texas Rangers 7-0.

Garza (10-7) was perfect into the sixth inning and finished with a complete game, backed by four home runs -- a two-run shot by Eric Hinske and solo homers by Carlos Pena, Willy Aybar and Gabe Gross.

The Rays extended their lead atop the American League East to 3 1/2 games over Boston, which was rained out at home.

Losing pitcher Kevin Millwood (6-7) gave up five runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Justin Ruggiano and Josh Hamilton had the two singles for the Rangers.
