MLB: N.Y. Mets 2, Pittsburgh 1

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Mike Pelphrey hurled seven scoreless innings Friday to help the New York Mets edge Pittsburgh 2-1 for their fourth straight victory.

In his best outing this season, Pelphrey (11-8) yielded seven hits, and 58 of his 98 pitches were strikes.

New York scored both its runs in the top of the first on David Wright's single and a wild pitch by Pittsburgh starting and losing pitcher Jason Davis (1-2).

Aaron Heilman earned his third save.

Jose Reyes and Argenis Reyes had two hits apiece for the Mets, winners in seven of their last eight games. They lead Philadelphia by 1 ½ games in the NL East, pending the outcome of the Phillies' contest at San Diego Friday.

Pittsburgh averted a shutout when Jack Wilson hit his first homer this season with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Adam LaRoche had three of the nine hits for the Pirates, who have lost three of four.
