MLB: Chicago Cubs 6, Florida 5

MIAMI, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Daryle Ward's three-run ninth-inning homer Friday gave the Chicago Cubs a 6-5 victory against the Florida Marlins.

Chicago won its fourth straight game. The Cubs were trailing 5-3 when Ward launched the shot, his third homer this season, with one out in the top of the ninth.

Mark DeRosa hit a two-run homer in the fourth and scored three times. Starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano hit an RBI single in the second and DeRosa had two of the Cubs' seven hits.

The winner was Chad Gaudin (4-1).

Closer Kerry Wood earned his 25th save.

Florida's Jorge Cantu hit a three-run homer in the third. Cody Ross and Josh Willingham had one RBI each but the Marlins mustered only four hits in their third straight defeat.

The losing pitcher was reliever Kevin Gregg (6-5).
