MLB: Minnesota 4, N.Y. Yankees 0

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Glen Perkins pitched eight shutout innings and Adam Everett hit a two-run homer Monday to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 4-0 win over the N.Y. Yankees.

Perkins (9-3) gave up four hits and three walks and the Twins got their fourth victory in their last five games.

Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer each had an RBI and Denard Span doubled and scored twice for Minnesota, which owns a half-game lead over Chicago in the AL Central.

Sidney Ponson (7-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over 7 2/3 innings.

Bobby Abreu had two of New York's four hits. Johnny Damon sat out the game even though he has an 11-game hitting streak.
