MLB: Texas 9, New York 5

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Marlon Byrd belted a grand slam with two out in the bottom of the ninth Monday night to hand the Texas Rangers a 9-5 victory over the New York Yankees.

With Damaso Marte (0-1) on in relief, pinch-hitter Milton Bradley drew a lead-off walk and then Gerald Laird walked with one away. Josh Hamilton drew a two-out walk to set up Byrd's fifth career grand slam.

Michael Young had a three-run homer and David Murphy stroked a two-run homer for the Rangers, who won for the fifth time in their last seven games.

Eddie Guardado (3-2) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory. Texas starter Vicente Padilla allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings, with five strikeouts.

Jason Giambi had three hits and two RBI, and Robinson Cano and Xavier Nady each had a solo home run for the Yankees, who lost for the sixth time in nine games.

Yankees' starter Joba Chamberlain yielded five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 4 2/3 innings before leaving the game with a stiff right shoulder.
