Browns cornerback has knee surgery

BEREA, Ohio, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns cornerback Gary Baxter, who has not played since 2006, had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove loose cartilage from his knee.

Baxter, 29, joined the Browns in 2005 as a free agent from Baltimore. He played in only five games before suffering a season-ending injury.

In 2006, Baxter played in just three games before he tore tendons in both knees while breaking up a pass. He missed all of last year while continuing his rehabilitation. His return from this latest injury has yet to be determined.

Baxter has appeared in 62 games with the Ravens and Browns since 2001 and has 299 tackles, three sacks and eight interceptions.
