STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 28 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Agnes Szavay won a tough first-round match Monday at the $145,000 Nordea Nordic Light Open tennis tournament in Sweden.
Szavay staved off six break points and won just seven more points over the match in defeating Yanina Wickmayer 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).
The only other seeded player on the hard courts of the Stockholm Olympic Stadium Monday was upset. Seventh-seeded Kateryna Bondarenko fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to Camille Pin.
In other first-round matches, Emma Laine beat Alexandra Panova 6-1, 6-3 and Iveta Benesova took out Tatiana Perebiynis 6-2, 6-2.
Agnieszka Radwanska is the tournament's defending champion and No. 1 seed this week.
The tournament continues through Sunday when the champion will win $22,925.
