INDIANAPOLIS, July 22 (UPI) -- Miles Avery, the personal coach of U.S. team members Paul and Morgan Hamm., has been selected an assistant coach of the U.S. Olympic men's gymnastics team.

USA Gymnastics also announced Tuesday that team members selected Kevin Tan of Fremont, Calif., as their captain.

Avery, the gymnastics coach at Ohio State University, will assist head coach Kevin Mazeika. It will be Avery's fourth Olympics as assistant coach.

USA Gymnastics said the U.S. men's team is comprised of Tan; Joey Hagerty of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Morgan Hamm of Waukesha, Wis.; Paul Hamm of Waukesha, Wis.; Jonathan Horton of Houston; and Justin Spring of Burke, Va. The replacement athletes are Alexander Artemev of Morrison, Colo.; Raj Bhavsar of Houston and David Durante of Garwood, N.J.

Paul Hamm, the twin brother of Morgan Hamm, is the defending Olympics All-Around gold medalist. He petitioned to be given a place on the team after breaking a hand during a May competition. Last Saturday, he appeared at a meet in Colorado Springs, Colo., and convinced coaches he should be on the team.
