Quigley sets course record in Minnesota

BLAINE, Minn., July 18 (UPI) -- Dana Quigley turned in a course-record 10-under 62 Friday to take a two-shot lead after one round of the 3M Championship.

It equaled the lowest round of Quigley's Champions Tour career.

The old record at the TPC-Twin Cities course had been 63, shot by Don Pooley in 2003 and equaled by Tom Purtzer in 2005.

Gene Jones was alone in second place at 64 with Jeff Sluman and R.W. Eaks tied for third at 65.

Loren Roberts, who grabbed his first win of the year two weeks ago, shared fifth place at 66 with Gary Hallberg, Ed Dougherty and John Harris.

Quigley was 2-under through five before making a par save at the sixth, which he said was the key to his round.

"Every round has turning points," Quigley said. "My up and down for par on the sixth was big."

His round was also highlighted by an 84-yard shot that hopped into the hole for an eagle at the 12th.
