Jurevicius slowed by right-knee surgery

CLEVELAND, July 17 (UPI) -- Cleveland wide receiver Joe Jurevicius will miss the first six weeks of the 2008 NFL season following a slow recovery from right-knee surgery.

The 11-year veteran experienced swelling and discomfort from a previous operation and General Manager Phil Savage told Cleveland radio station WTAM-AM Thursday that the 6-foot-5 inch Jurevicius likely will be placed on the physically unable to perform list before the season opens with a home-field contest Sept. 7 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Jurevicius, 33, was the team's third-leading receiver last season with 50 catches for three touchdowns and 614 yards.

"We probably won't know maybe until the end of August what his status will be in terms of going into the year and maybe even for the second half of the year," Savage said.

If Jurevicius lands on the PUP list, he could not return to practice until at least Oct. 14, preceding the Oct. 19 game at Washington.
