DEARBORN, Mich., June 30 (UPI) -- Jeff Overton shot 14-under 130 and Paul Goydos a 13-under 131 to take medalist honors Monday in British Open International Qualifying.
Overton had 12 birdies, an eagle and no bogeys en route to rounds of 63 and 67. Both he and Goydos will make their first appearances in the Open Championship.
All seven qualifiers at Dearborn Country Club were Americans. Davis Love III, Rich Beem, Kevin Stadler and Craig Barlow all advanced in a five-for-four playoff ahead of Iain Steel from Malaysia. The five were tied at 9-under 135 after 36 holes. Love, the 1997 PGA Championship winner, will be making his 22nd consecutive appearance in the British Open.
Jesper Parnevik, who finished as a runner-up at the Open in 1994 and 1997, was among those who failed to qualify.
