MLB: Boston 6, Houston 1

HOUSTON, June 28 (UPI) -- J.D. Drew hit a three-run homer Friday and Daisuke Matsuzaka threw five shutout innings, lifting the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 decision over Houston.

Matsuzaka (9-1) made his second start since returning from a month's absence brought on by a right-rotator cuff strain. After being knocked around by St. Louis for seven runs while retiring only three batters last Friday, he looked sharp against the Astros.

Houston managed only two hits against Matsuzaka, who threw 87 pitches.

Drew hit his homer in the third inning for the game's first runs. Dustin Pedroia had an RBI single in the seventh and Mike Lowell singled in two runs in the ninth.

Jonathan Papelbon retired the final four batters for his 24th save.

Boston, playing in Houston for the first time in franchise history, won its third straight.

Runelvys Hernandez (0-1) took the loss in his first major league appearance in two seasons. He allowed five hits and three runs over five innings.
