HOUSTON, June 26 (UPI) -- The Houston Astros have waived pitcher Shawn Chacon after his indefinite suspension for insubordination following an altercation with General Manager Ed Wade.

The 30-year-old right-hander, who was released late Thursday, got into a scuffle with Wade before Wednesday night's contest against the Texas Rangers. Wade told Chacon he was being sent to Houston's bullpen and Chacon then informed the Astros he wanted to be traded.

"His defiance of the manager, the pitching coach, me, and especially the organization led us to this decision," Wade said in a statement.

"At this point, I would say if they don't want me to start for them they should make it all good for both sides and trade me to a team that might need a starter because I am sure there are other teams that do," Chacon said earlier.

The Houston Chronicle said Chacon grabbed Wade and threw him to the ground during the scuffle.

Chacon went 2-3 with a 5.04 ERA in 15 starts (85 2/3 innings) this season.

In his previous start at Baltimore on June 19, he surrendered six earned runs and eight hits in five innings.
