CLEVELAND, June 25 (UPI) -- Barry Zito delivered his best start of the season Wednesday, limiting Cleveland to a run over 6 2/3 innings in San Francisco's 4-1 win.
The former Cy Young Award winner, who has struggled since moving from Oakland to San Francisco, improved to 3-11. His 11 losses are the most in the majors and he ended an eight-game losing streak in inter-league contests.
Jose Castillo homered, doubled and scored twice, and John Bowker added a solo homer in helping the Giants improve to 2-0 in the series.
Jeremy Sowers (0-3) gave up three runs on nine hits in seven innings to take the loss. The Indians have dropped three in a row.
Castillo's homer, a solo shot in the third, gave the Giants a 3-0 cushion. Bowker provided San Francisco an insurance run in the eighth.
Brian Wilson worked the ninth for his 21st save of the season, tops in the National League.
