McKie charged with trying to buy guns

PHILADELPHIA, June 23 (UPI) -- Former 76ers player Aaron McKie has been arrested in Philadelphia for allegedly trying to buy guns in violation of a restraining order.

McKie, 35, allegedly marked in paperwork to obtain .38-caliber Smith and Wesson and 9 mm Ruger handguns that he was not subject to a court order restraining him from harassing his "child or an intimate partner or child of such partner," The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.

However, a Delaware County, Pa., restraining order had been filed against McKie in September. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Fe said the reasons for the restraining order are confidential, but the document does ban McKie from purchasing or possessing firearms for one year.

A computer search at Abington Gun Sports revealed the restraining order and McKie was not allowed to purchase the firearms. He was charged with one misdemeanor count and one felony count related to the attempted purchase.
