Spain ousts Italy in Euro 2008 soccer

VIENNA, June 22 (UPI) -- Spain made four of five penalty kicks and advanced to the Euro 2008 soccer semifinals Sunday with a 4-2 victory over Italy in Vienna.

The teams had battled to a scoreless tie through 90 minutes of regulation and a half-hour of extra time.

Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas blocked two Italian penalty kicks and Cesc Fabregas fired in the clinching point.

Germany takes on Turkey Wednesday and the Spanish team, which is unbeaten in 20 straight games, goes against Russia Thursday in the semifinals.
