Seven players tied for the LPGA lead

PITTSFORD, N.Y., June 19 (UPI) -- Seven players shot 4-under-par 68 Thursday to share the lead after the first 18 holes at the Wegmans LPGA golf tournament in Pittsford, N.Y.

Among the seven is defending U.S. Women's Open champion Christie Kerr, who joined the leaders because she sank a two-putt 35-foot birdie at the par-5 17th hole.

"I played actually pretty good," Kerr said. "I had a little bit of the case of the rights off the tee (but) hit a couple of irons to the right, so I have something to work on. The greens are very soft."

Also at the top are Ai Miyazato, Jeong Jang, Inbee Park, Song-Hee Kim, Soo-Yun Kang and Jimin Jeong.

Jang, the 2006 champion, broke into red figures with a nine-foot birdie putt at the fourth hole.

Defending champion and world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa was one of 19 players to shoot even-par 72, while Michelle Wie joined 14 others in a tie for 21st place at 1-under 71.
