MLB: N.Y. Yankees 8, San Diego 0

NEW YORK, June 17 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi had two home runs and three RBI Tuesday to lead the New York Yankees to an 8-0 inter-league victory over the San Diego Padres.

Andy Pettitte (7-5) gave up just five hits in seven innings. He tied a season-high with nine strikeouts and passed Ron Guidry for fourth place on the Yankees' all-time wins list with 171.

Alex Rodriguez had a solo homer and Derek Jeter had a pair of RBI for the Yankees, who tied a season-high with five straight wins.

Padres pitcher Randy Wolf (5-5) tied his shortest outing of the season, going four innings and giving up seven runs on six hits.

Chase Headley, who was called up prior to the game, went 2-for-4. No other Padre had more than one hit and none of San Diego's seven hits went for extra bases.
