CHAPEL HILL, N.C., June 16 (UPI) -- Three North Carolina basketball players withdrew from the NBA draft Monday and will play for the Tar Heels next season.
Wayne Ellington, Danny Green and Ty Lawson had entered their names into the draft pool in April but did not hire agents, leaving open the possibility of returning to school.
"After a long and exhaustive process of gathering information and sharing it with these youngsters, I stepped back and asked them to make their own decisions," North Carolina Coach Roy Williams said.
Ellington, who completed his sophomore season in 2007-08, has scored 1,092 points and was a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection last season.
Green, who will be a senior next season, has 871 points and 412 rebounds in three seasons, averaging 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Lawson, who will be a junior, has averaged 11.3 points and 5.4 assists in his first two seasons.
North Carolina was second nationally in scoring last season while winning a school-record 36 games.
