ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 15 (UPI) -- Wes Helms and Mike Jacobs both blasted three-run homers Sunday to key the Florida Marlins' 9-3 rout at Tampa Bay.
Helms' homer staked Florida to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and Jacobs' round-tripper increased the lead to 6-0 in the fifth.
Cody Ross hit a two-run triple in the eighth. Jorge Cantu drove in one run, while four players had two hits for the Marlins, who prevented a three-game Tampa Bay sweep.
Winner Ricky Nolasco (7-4) gave up three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and a walk in 8 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts. He came within one out of hurling a complete game but won for the sixth time in his last seven decisions.
Tampa Bay got one RBI each from three players, including Eric Hinske, who hit a solo homer in the sixth.
Losing pitcher Edwin Jackson (4-6) yielded six earned runs and five hits in five innings.
