LSU sprinters win NCAA titles

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 13 (UPI) -- Richard Thompson won the 100-meter dash and ran a leg on LSU's winning sprint relay team Friday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Thompson turned in a 10.12 100 to edge Travis Padgett of Clemson and his LSU teammate Trindon Holliday.

Florida State's Walter Dix settled for fourth place, but the Seminoles took over the team lead with 32 points -- one more than LSU.

In the women's team race, Arizona State moved in front, thanks to a 1-2 finish in the discus throw by Sarah Stevens and Tai Battle. The Wildcats had 36 points, with LSU in second at 31.

LSU's Kelly-Ann Baptiste won the women's 100 in 11.20, defeating Simone Facey of Texas A&M by .07 of a second.

The championships conclude Saturday.
