FAR HILLS, N.J., June 10 (UPI) -- Michelle Wie, concluding play Monday, was one of 83 players to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open after sectional qualifying was completed Tuesday morning.
Wie finished with a two-round total of 137 to earn a spot in the field later this month at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn. She finished one stroke behind former two-time U.S. Women's Amateur Champion Kelli Kuehne at Woodmont Country Club.
Alexis Thompson, 13, will be returning to the U.S. Women's Open. Last year, she became the youngest player ever to qualify for the event and this year was third at Loblolly Pines Golf Course in Florida.
Tuesday playoffs were required at two sites. Emily Powers and Danah Ford earned the final two places at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. Taylor Leon earned top alternate honors at Eastern Hills Country Club on Tuesday.
There is still one spot open in the field for the U.S. Women's Open, scheduled for June 26-29.
