Murray advances on Artois walkover

LONDON, June 10 (UPI) -- Britain's Andy Murray advanced to the third round of $1.12 million Artois Championships in a walkover Tuesday.

Murray, seeded sixth, was leading 2-0 in the first set when his opponent Sebastien Grosjean retired. It was Murray's first match on a grass court in nearly two years but it didn't last long when Grosjean injured his left thigh.

In other second-round matches, ninth-seeded Fernando Verdasco lost, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, to Mario Ancic but No. 7 Paul-Henri Mathieu beat Marin Cilic, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, and eighth-seeded Ivo Karlovic swept Joseph Sirianni, 6-3, 6-2.

In first-round matches Tuesday involving seeded players: No. 12 Andreas Seppi edged Arnaud Clement, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1; No. 15 Mardy Fish cruised past Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-1, 6-4; Nicolas Mahut, last year's tournament runner-up, ousted 14th-seeded Feliciano Lopez, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), and Olivier Patience took out 16th-seeded Sam Querrey, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

In key matches Wednesday, top-seeded and world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, second-seeded Novak Djokovic and defending champion Andy Roddick all see action.
