Sean Green pitched the seventh and eighth, and Ryan Rowland-Smith finished up with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Seattle took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a throwing error by losing pitcher Bartolo Colon and Jose Vidro's RBI groundout, and pulled way by scoring six times in the next six innings.

Richie Sexson had three hits and two RBI. Vidro and Ichiro Suzuki both had two RBI and Adrian Beltre added one for the Mariners, who broke a four-game losing streak.

The Red Sox, playing without injured stars Manny Ramirez (wrist) and David Ortiz (hamstring), had won three in a row.

Designated hitter Sean Casey had three of Boston's seven hits.
