MLB: Cleveland 4, Detroit 2

DETROIT, June 6 (UPI) -- Paul Byrd allowed two solo homers over seven innings Friday in carrying the Cleveland Indians to a 4-2 victory over Detroit.

Byrd (3-5) limited the Tigers to four hits in recording the 100th win of his career. Masahide Kobayashi protected the Cleveland lead by pitching a perfect eighth and Joe Borowski worked around a one-out single in the ninth to pick up his fifth save.

Casey Blake drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to open the scoring in the fourth and Franklin Gutierrez singled home another run in the inning.

After Jeff Larish and Brandon Inge homered for Detroit, Ryan Garko delivered a solo shot for the Indians in the eighth.

Justin Verlander (2-9) took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits in seven innings. The Tigers have dropped four in a row.
