Baseball hands out two suspensions

NEW YORK, June 5 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball suspended Colorado's Yorvit Torrealba and Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers for an on-field incident Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.

In a release late Thursday, Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for major league baseball, noted that both players were fined an undisclosed amount of money for their roles in the bench-clearing incident in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Officials said Kemp took exception to a minor collision and shoved Torrealba, who responded with a shove to Kemp's chin.

They wrestled each other to the ground, and both dugouts emptied, but no other players were ejected.

Kemp was suspended four games and will begin serving it Thursday against the Cubs barring an appeal.

Torrealba will serve a three-game suspension beginning Friday against Milwaukee unless appealed.

Also both players received undisclosed fines and neither was available for immediate comments.
