MLB: Chicago Cubs 9, San Diego 6

SAN DIEGO, June 4 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs rode homers by Mark DeRosa, Geovany Soto and Alfonso Soriano to a 9-6 win over the San Diego Padres Tuesday.

Soto hit a solo shot, DeRosa a two-run homer and Soriano a three-run blast as Chicago won its ninth in a row.

Cubs starter Jason Marquis (3-3) won despite making it through only five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and five walks. He also committed a balk and a throwing error that led to runs.

Kerry Wood earned his 16th save with a scoreless ninth.

San Diego, which lost its third straight, got RBI hits from Adrian Gonzalez and Khalil Greene.

Brian Corey (1-1) took the loss, giving up the lead in the sixth on the homers by Soto and DeRosa. Padres starter Wil Ledezma gave up three runs over 4 2/3 innings but didn't figure in the decision.
