MLB: Kansas City 6, Cleveland 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 1 (UPI) -- Brian Bannister yielded an earned run and five hits in 7 1/3 innings Sunday to key Kansas City's 6-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.

His shutout bid ended when Grady Sizemore blasted a solo home run in the top of the seventh.

Bannister (5-6) walked one batter, fanned four and placed 70 of his 103 pitches for strikes.

Kansas City's Jose Guillen had three hits, one a solo homer in the bottom of the second, and two RBI. Mark Gudzielanek had one hit, two RBI and scored twice, while Alex Gordon added a two-run double in the third for the Royals, who won the final two games of the series after a 12-game losing streak.

Sizemore had two hits for the Indians, who have lost three of their last four games.

Losing pitcher Paul Byrd (2-5) surrendered six earned runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
