PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, May 31 (UPI) -- David Beckham has been named captain of England's soccer team for its match against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday in Port of Spain.
The 33-year-old midfielder left England in 2007 to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer in the United States.
When England failed to win the 2006 World Cup, he was dropped by former Coach Steve McLaren, who cited concerns about Beckham's fitness.
"I have a few more wrinkles now, but I still feel I can do what I did 10 years ago," Beckham told BBC Sports in London on Saturday. "I was happy with my performance against France in March, my first game under (new coach) Fabio Capello, and it was the same against the United States the other night."
Sunday's match will be Beckham's 59th as England's captain.
