ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 30 (UPI) -- Cliff Floyd led off the ninth inning with a home run Friday, giving the Tampa Bay Rays a 2-1 decision over the Chicago White Sox.
Floyd ended a tremendous pitching duel with a blast to center that lifted the Rays to only their third win over Chicago in 12 tries.
Chicago's Jose Contreras and Tampa Bay's James Shields each allowed a run, but neither was around for the finish.
Floyd's homer came off Scott Linebrink (2-1), who threw only two pitches.
The win went to Dan Wheeler (1-3), who worked around a walk in the top of the ninth.
Contreras allowed a run in the third when, after getting the first two batters in the inning, he gave up a single to Akinori Iwamura, a walk to Carl Crawford and an RBI base hit to B.J. Upton.
Alexei Ramirez tied the game with a homer in the fifth, his second of the season.
