MLB: Minnesota 6, Detroit 1

DETROIT, May 25 (UPI) -- Jason Kubel's grand slam homer Sunday lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 6-1 win at Detroit.

With the score tied 1-1 and the bases full in the top of the eighth inning, Kubel launched his sixth home run this season on a 3-1 pitch from Detroit reliever and losing pitcher Francisco Cruceta (0-2) into the right-field seats.

Kubel had two hits and Mike Lamb three for the Twins, who made a quick recovery from a 19-3 beating Saturday.

Winner Glen Perkins (2-1) surrendered an earned run on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings.

One of the hits was a solo homer by Carlos Guillen in the bottom of the fifth. Guillen had a team-high three hits and Gary Sheffield added two for the Tigers, who had won four of five.

Detroit starter Justin Verlander allowed an earned run on five hits and four walks in seven innings. He recorded three strikeouts.
