MLB: Arizona 11, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, May 23 (UPI) -- Arizona blasted five home runs Friday to make a winner out of Doug Davis in the Diamondbacks' 11-1 romp over Atlanta.

Davis was making his first appearance since undergoing cancer surgery. He started two games early in the season after being diagnosed with a cancerous thyroid gland shortly before the start of the campaign.

He had surgery April 10 to remove the gland and doctors said he was cancer free before he made two starts with Class AAA Tucson.

Davis (2-1) gave up five hits and a run over seven innings.

He was backed up by homers from Stephen Drew and Eric Byrnes in the first, Conor Jackson in the fifth, Chris Young in the sixth and Mark Reynolds in the eighth. Those shots accounted for seven runs.

Jo-Jo Reyes (2-2) took the loss, giving up six hits and seven runs in five innings. Atlanta was coming off a four-game sweep of the New York Mets.
