NEW YORK, May 23 (UPI) -- Major league baseball Friday suspended two managers and a coach for their parts this week in on-field incidents.
Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for inappropriate actions, including making contact with umpire Eric Cooper, in the seventh inning of the Reds' 8-2 loss to San Diego on Thursday.
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi received a one game suspension and was fined an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate actions that included kicking dirt on umpire Chris Guccione in the ninth inning of the Yankees' 2-1 win over Baltimore Thursday.
San Diego hitting coach Wally Joyner was hit with a one-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount for coming onto the playing field to argue a call in the sixth inning of the Padres' 11-3 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday.
Under major league rules, the suspensions start immediately because only players can appeal.
