ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 19 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Sofia Arvidsson was upset in straight sets Monday in first-round play of the $200,000 Istanbul Cup.
The tournament is the final tuneup ahead of Sunday's start of the French Open.

ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 19 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Sofia Arvidsson was upset in straight sets Monday in first-round play of the $200,000 Istanbul Cup. The tournament is the final tuneup ahead of Sunday's start of the French Open.
Arvidsson fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to Andreja Klepac while other seeded players played to form. No. 4-seeded Olga Govortsova defeated Ipek Senoglu 6-3, 6-2 and seventh-seeded Jill Craybas took out Tzipora Obziler 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Also, Vania King beat Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 and Marta Domachowska got by Marina Erakovic 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Additional opening-round wins were posted by Aiko Nakamura, Nathalie Vierin and Stephanie Dubois.
Defending champion Elena Dementieva, the No. 1 seed, has a first-round bye.
