MLB: Pittsburgh 7, Chicago Cubs 6

CHICAGO, May 17 (UPI) -- Nate McLouth's two-run homer Saturday lifted the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Chicago Cubs 7-6.

The contest was knotted 5-5 with one out in the top of the ninth when McLouth blasted an offering from losing pitcher Carlos Marmol (1-1) into the right-field seats. The game-winning shot was the center-fielder's third hit of the day and 12th homer this season.

It was needed because Ryan Theriot's RBI single pulled Chicago within 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

Four Pittsburgh players drove in one run.

Freddy Sanchez also had three hits and Adam LaRoche two for the Pirates, who had lost their previous games against the Cubs.

The winner was Damaso Marte (3-0) with Matt Capps earning his 10th save.

Chicago's Alfonso Soriano had five hits, two on solo homers, three RBI and scored three times. Reed Johnson drove in a run.

One run scored on an error while both Theriot and Mark DeRosa had two hits for the Cubs, who had won seven of eight.
