MLB: Boston 5, Milwaukee 3

BOSTON, May 17 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by David Ortiz Saturday helped the Boston Red Sox beat Milwaukee 5-3 in the opener of a day/night doubleheader at Fenway Park.

Ortiz's eighth home run this season came with two outs in the bottom of the second and gave Boston a 4-0 lead.

J.D. Drew drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the first. Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, one an RBI double in the eighth.

Jason Varitek and Sean Casey also had two hits for the Red Sox, who ended a four-game slide.

Winner Daisuke Matsuzaka (7-0) surrendered two unearned runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 12th save after giving up a solo homer in the ninth to Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, who had three hits.

Mike Cameron hit a two-run homer in the seventh while both Prince Fielder and Bill Hall had two hits for the Brewers, who have dropped three in a row.

The losing pitcher was starter Jeff Suppan (2-3).
