DETROIT, May 12 (UPI) -- Hockey legend Ted Lindsay testified Monday that Detroit's Vladimir Konstantinov was the game's best player when his career was cut short by a car accident.
The 82-year-old Lindsay, a member of hockey's Hall of Fame, told a federal court jury in Detroit that the Red Wings star could have played another 10 years.
"He was the greatest machine in the world," Lindsay told the jury, according to the Detroit News. "I see this vegetable and to me it just kind of makes me sick."
Konstantinov is suing an Ohio auto dealership for selling a limousine that was allegedly defective. He was paralyzed from the waist down in 1997 when the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The Detroit Free Press noted that accident took place shortly after the Red Wings had won the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1955 when Lindsay was on the team.
