Biffle claims first pole of the season

DARLINGTON, S.C., May 9 (UPI) -- Greg Biffle won his first Sprint Cup pole of the season Friday and will start out front in Saturday's Dodge Challenger 500 at the Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

Biffle circled the newly paved track in 27.405 seconds to establish a record of 179.442 mph. That cracked the mark of 173.797 mph established by Ward Burton 12 years ago.
